Kasia & Joe… Burnaby Mountain engagement shoot

On the warm summer evening we met Joe & Kasia on Burnaby Mountain for their engagement shoot. With the scent of roses in the air, a romantic stroll through the garden was the plan.  Joe told us this was where he proposed and he wanted to recreate the moment when he asked the radiant Kasia to be his wife. We ended the shoot with a stunning sunset and they giggled and cuddled like teenagers. These two are so in love and romantic in the most adorable way!

Locations, locations, locations!

I often get asked for advice from my couples on where to go for their engagement shoot. I think it makes sense to choose somewhere that means something to them and fits their lifestyle.

There are so many beautiful places to choose from right in our own backyard in the Lower Mainland. If you are more uptown and dressy, how about Coal Harbour or Gastown? If you are outdoorsy and casual… maybe Lynn Valley or Pitt Lake would work for you. Of course the popular standards are always great, Queen Elizabeth, Deer Lake or Stanley Park have so many different locations to choose from. Maybe one of our many beautiful beaches on a warm sunlit evening would be a good choice or the colourful extravaganza that is Granville Island.

I can’t think of a better way to feature some great locations and help couples to decide than with pictures! All in all this is a fun shoot where we get to know each other a little better and helps the couple get used to being photographed, oh and for the guys… kissing will be involved 😉

Michael & Lindsay… Granville Island engagement shoot

Peter and I are looking forward to Michael & Lindsay’s wedding in Harrison on this holiday weekend! I met them for their engagement shoot on a very chilly and wet December day. We roamed around under the cover of the Granville Street bridge, where they happily snuggled into each other to keep warm or maybe just because they are absolutely smitten with one another!

After our unseasonably warm spring, the weather has taken a turn as of late. No worries for this lovely couple, a dip in the Hot Springs after a night of dancing and celebrating will be just what the doctor ordered! Looking forward to capturing your memories for you both!

Raymond & Mary… spring engagement shoot

Peter and I met Raymond and Mary last year for a coffee and had an instant connection with this young couple. We couldn’t be more excited to be shooting their upcoming wedding!

Whatever the weather holds for their big day, Raymond and Mary will take it in stride just as they did when we met them on a drizzly March morning before their tea ceremony. Here are a few of my favorite photos from a short time we spent outside in a park near their home. These two are naturals!

Raymond and Mary, we are looking forward to your wedding day, it is going to be amazing!

Brian & Tina… a most romantic proposal!

What a thrill to be able to capture Brian’s romantic proposal to Tina! Brian contacted me a couple of weeks ago, with an amazing plan to ask the love of his life to become his beloved. The couple live in Washington State but Tina was in Burnaby for a conference. They have already planned their wedding for July of this year and Brian just needed to propose officially.

I met Brian at BC Helicopters in Abbotsford to start the journey, unfortunately our run of good weather had ended, but that did nothing to dampen Brian’s spirits. We got in the helicopter and flew up to the hot springs on the Pitt River. The helicopter dropped us off and went to retrieve Tina from down town Vancouver. There were a number of people in on the secret and Brian arranged for a co-worker of Tina’s to take her from the conference to the helipad in Vancouver.

Meanwhile Brian and I hunkered down in the rain and waited for Sancho, our pilot, to return with Tina. The plan was to capture the proposal, take a some photos of the two of them and then the couple would spend some time in the hot springs.

Brian was excited and a bit nervous but we kept ourselves busy planning the best angles and taking a few photos in the rain. We had taken a quick trip to the hot springs to check out the trail, the terrain was challenging but beautiful!

In the distance we could hear the bup, bup, bup of the chopper arriving so Brian got into position. The ruse to get Tina there worked, she was truly surprised to see Brian standing on the bridge… ring in his pocket, heart in his hand.

I had gotten to know Brian a little bit as we waited in the forest for Tina to arrive, and he really is a nice guy. I hoped that Tina would be a sweetheart too, as I had yet to meet her. As I captured the amazingly romantic proposal, I was thrilled to see that Tina is the loveliest girl. They truly are the one of the sweetest couples I have had the pleasure to work with!

Brian and Tina, I wish you the best in your life together and thank you for an adventure that I will remember for a long, long time!

David & Michelle… Lighthouse Park engagement shoot

David & Michelle are getting married this Saturday at the Brock House Restaurant. I have shot there once before, it is lovely and the view of Jericho Beach… please.  Needless to say I’m looking forward to documenting their wedding day!

But first, their engagement shoot… it was an afternoon in January if you can believe it! David & Michelle are avid rock climbers and chose to have a rock climbing inspired shoot at Lighthouse Park. The plan was to repel down the rock (not sure where I was going to shoot from) but all of the hooks were occupied so we just spent our time together exploring around and finding the light (whew). 🙂

Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session…

Chilly December engagement shoot… Pat & Anne

I met Pat and Anne for their engagement shoot at the top of Burnaby Mountain at Anne’s Alma Mater, Simon Fraser University. I always love shooting up there but this particular day in December was very, very chilly! Risking fingers and noses, we persevered and gave these sweethearts a good chance to perfect their ‘cuddle pose’ for the wedding day.

Looking forward to sharing Pat & Anne’s special day this coming weekend at Swan-e-set Bay Golf & Country Club.

Kitsilano engagement shoot… Mario & Stephanie

Peter and I are looking forward to shooting our last wedding of the 2015 season this weekend with these lovely people, Mario & Stephanie.

We met them for their engagement shoot in a park near their home in Kitsilano, so we could include their adorably grumpy little dog, George. He didn’t really want to pose for photos, but we managed to get a few cute ones!

The couple wanted their engagement photos to reflect their life in Kits so our next destination was the beach to catch the sunset. We also made a pit stop to take a few photos in front of one of Mario & Stephanie’s favourite coffee spots.

The sunset was glorious and it was so fun to capture some great memories for them. We look forward to shooting their wedding this weekend at Brix restaurant.

Queen Elizabeth Park engagement… James & Reisa

Tomorrow we shoot James & Reisa’s outdoor wedding at London Heritage Farm in Richmond… and the weather God’s have smiled… yessss.

A couple of months ago we met James & Reisa and their beloved companion, Izzy at Queen Elizabeth Park to get to know each other and take a few engagement photos. Always a favourite venue for engagement photos, weddings photos and the like, this night we found the park peaceful and virtually empty. Izzy was such a good girl and soo very cute! She was a treat to photograph.

Queen Elizabeth park was lovely as ever and I fell in love with the purple allium blooms. As a matter of fact when my talented friend Stefania Bowler created my logo for me she asked what kind of flower I like and I remembered these exotic beauties. She found just the perfect graphic for me.

Then the photos of James & Reisa and the blooms and the light… be still my heart.

Stanley park engagement shoot… Matt & Anna

What can I say… I am a little behind on blogging in this busy summer wedding season. I am going to use the excuse of no power during the Summer Storm 2015 that wiped out power to over 700,00 homes in the Lower Mainland, us being one of those homes. I usually get the engagement blog out just before the wedding but… 🙂

Peter and I just had the pleasure of shooting Matt & Anna’s wedding at the UBC Boathouse in Richmond.  So much love for these wonderful people from family and friends.  It was appropriate to be so near the airport as these two adorable people are also pilots! Here is one sneak peek from the wedding day.

I am looking forward to sharing their wedding but for now here is their engagement shoot taken at Stanley Park. We met Matt & Anna on a beautiful early summer evening as the sun was getting low in the sky, my favourite time to shoot!  We made a few different stops, chasing the light and ending with a dazzling sunset on Third Beach.

I hope the two of you are enjoying your honeymoon, I’m sure you have jetted somewhere fabulous!
