Richie & Mandy… lifestyle family shoot

I love these relaxed family lifestyle shoots! I just arrive (with a camera or two) to see what is happening during the day of a new little family. I like to capture what life looked like for them at this in the moment in time. It is a great alternative to carting the whole family of to Sears portrait studio as we did in the days when I had littles.

The family today was Richie, Mandy, baby Ethan and Max (the firstborn). I used to work with Mandy before I took the leap of being a full time photographer and it was so nice to see her again and meet her adorable baby boy. Days go by so fast and soon little ones are not so little anymore, documenting life and times and tiny fingers is so, so important. Thanks Richie & Mandy for having me in your lovely home, I really do think the first shot could be in the IKEA showroom or the very least in the catalogue (it is an IKEA sofa, I’m sure of that). 🙂

Belly to baby… Brittni, Chris & baby Jayden

It was a true joy to capture this special time for Brittni & Chris. First a maternity session at Deer Lake Park to document the growing (but still tiny) baby bump.

Then bump becomes baby… baby Jayden. It was so fun to spend a morning with the new parents, they are 100% smitten with their new little delight!

This poem meant so much to me when I first became the mother of a son, it took a long time before I could read with a dry eye… for you Brittni.

“My baby boy and me”

It’s three am, they’re all asleep, and no one is here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth, my baby boy and me.
His little hand is feather light tucked up against my chin.
I hold his tiny hand in mine, and stroke his baby skin.
The house about us creaks and groans, the clock hands creep around.
He snuggles closer to me still, and makes his baby sounds.
I love these quiet hours so much, and cherish every one.
Store memories up inside my heart for lonely nights to come.
All too soon he’ll be grown up, his need for Mama gone.
But until then I still have time for kisses and for song.
Time for quiet hours like this with him cuddled in my arms.
Where I wish he’d always stay protected, safe and warm.
And yet I know the day will come when his tiny little hand,
will be bigger than my own. He’ll grow to be a man.
But until then he’s mine to love with no one here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth, my baby boy and me.

Birthday Cake in the Park… Baby Frank

We met my friends Anna & Jeff to capture baby Frank’s 1st birthday cake smash back in September. Frank came all fancy, I love a man in a bow tie!

We took a few shots of him just being his cute self and then time for cake! He was a little timid at first but soon started to enjoy the cake his mommy made for him. In the end he got some help from Ally… after all what are big sisters for?

I love doing these shoots! You never know what you are going to get, but when cake is involved, it is a good day. 🙂

Whistler family shoot… Bintoro & Sandra

I spent the day up at Whistler my friend Lily and her family way back in January. Lily’s daughter Sandra, husband Bin, and their two handsome young men, Kenneth and William were visiting ‘Oma’ and ‘Opa’ and Auntie Grace.

Sandra and family live in Los Angeles and needed a change of pace and some fresh air and
invited me to join them and help them capture their Canadian visit.  This was my first time
meeting William, he is a strong silent type , big brother Kenneth is such a smart little man, a joy
to spend time with.
Thank you Lily for such a lovely day with your family, you made me feel like one of your own!MJ3_2823lily1lily14-2lily13-2MJ3_3022MJ3_2987MJ3_3049MJ3_2935-2lily3-2lily9MJ3_3071MJ3_3397MJ3_3245MJ3_3285

Aurora is one!

It was a lovely Sunday morning in Rocky Point park. We met Dave, Diana and their sweet little one year old, Aurora. She is wee sweet girl, a little shy but we(Peter) managed to get some smiles out of her.. or maybe it was Panda. We had fun on the swings, went for a walk to the pier and then time for bubbles and cake!  Of course we have to save the cake smash for last and Aurora was a little lady sampling her cake but then decided to dig in and get a little messy!  I love these little family shoots, thanks Dicken family, it was such fun!MJ2_3791

Baby J

I miss the days of baby snuggles with my own boys and it was nice to spend the morning with my friend Dara-Lee and her two little ones. Baby James is a little love and big sister Julia is a very sweet little girl (who doesn’t much like ponytails).

This was a more natural shoot than I usually do and it was so much fun. I spent the morning with this little group, just observing and capturing the morning routine. I decided before the shoot that all the photos would be in classic black & white. I really love the timeless quality of these moments!
